Information on the case: Önder Dolutas was arrested on 23 May 2008 upon arrival in Germany and imprisoned on the basis of a Turkish warrant from the year 2005. The judgement against Önder Dolutas at the basis of the warrant on grounds of his political activities had been pronounced in his absence in a trial that lacked state of law procedures.
Önder Dolutas had fled from Turkey to Great Britain in 2001 after suffering torture and had been given British citizenship as a recognised refugee, however without having been released from Turkish citizenship. Those who had been accused together with him in Turkey subsequently filed suit before the European Court of Human Rights, and Turkey was also condemned to payment of pain compensation to Önder Dolutas. Already in 2006, Turkey tried to obtain Önder Dolutas' extradition – Great Britain, however, refused the extradition demand. Nonetheless, Önder Dolutas was now arrested in Germany. Despite his British citizenship, he is now threatened to be extradited to Turkey, a country, where he was tortured before!
