Sahra Wagenknecht, Member of the European Parliament, the Left Group in the Leipzig City Parliament, and the Local Policy Forum Saxony invite you cordially to the conference:
(Re)communalisation instead of privatisation - alternatives to the liberalisation and privatisation craze in EuropeNew City Hall at Leipzig (Martin-Luther-Ring), plenary hall, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.It is for a good reason that a conference on this topic takes place in Leipzig. Almost 150,000 Leipzig citizens (=87.4% percent of the votes cast) pronounced themselves in favour of maintaining Leipzig municipal property at a referendum in January. But it is not only in Leipzig but elsewhere as well that the anger about the consequences of the privatisation policy that as a rule has led to price increases and to losses of jobs and social benefits is growing.
With this conference, we want to contribute to the exchange of experiences from different cities and countries and incite a discussion on how protest against privatisation policy can be strengthened Europe-wide and re-communalisations can be promoted.
The following speakers are invited:
Sahra Wagenknecht (MEP),
Ines Jahn (District Executive Secretary of ver.di trade union Leipzig-Northern Saxony),
Asbjørn Wahl (Attac Norway),
Mike Nagler (Leipzig citizen's initiative "Stop the sell-out of our city"),
