Since July 2004 I have been a Member of the European Parliament. I am a member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) where I act as coordinator for my political group, the Left Group GUE/NGL. I am also a substitute member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE).

Apart from that I work in the Delegation for relations with the countries of the Andean Community and, as a substitute member, in the Delegation for relations with Mercosur and in the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (Eurolat).
